Circonstances

Fernand Deligny
30.10.21 - 29.05.22

For one year the Dr. Guislain Museum welcomes the inspiring French pedagogue Fernand Deligny, who was also a philosopher, writer, film director and artist. In 1967 he started a network of care in the Cévennes for children often struggling with an autistic condition. Experimentation was keys: without any help of the spoken language, Deligny created a small community radically different from life in an institution. Circonstances is, in the first section, an exhibition of his maps with ‘lignes d’erre’. Further on, it transforms into a working place designed by the artist Simon Allemeersch and youngsters from the Ghent psychiatry. The question ‘How can we be inspired by the ideas of Deligny in the modern era’ is crucial for the whole project.
