Book Celebration Some Body Help - A work by artist Griet Menschaert and 3 writers
27 January at 20:00 Griet Menschaert presents her new art book ‘Some Body Help’, a collaboration with 3 writers. The concept arose during the lockdowns, in which no physical contact was possible, while we had so much need for it.
The new book ‘Some Body Help’ , centers around a series of 6 drawings that Menschaert made back in 2010, when she was involved in a toxic relationship, and reading ‘Lust’ by Elfriede Jelinek. These drawings got a new meaning for her during the physically alienating lockdowns of 2021, so she asked 3 colleagues/friends/artists/thinkers to write a new text to the drawings, from their own perspective: Leon Heuts, philosopher and currently head of Studium Generale at TUDelft, Hadas Cnaani, Mind-foodcoach and Noam Youngrak Son, non-binary designer.
They all wrote an intense text to accompany the drawings, arising from themes that concern them personally: sexual abuse, the social and online vulnerability of queer people and the consequences for your sexual orientation after your body underwent a drastic procedure.
As a balancing act during the online life of the lockdowns, the artist wrote out all their texts by hand several times, until she got it right. She added new illustrations. The writers and the artist met several times. There was a special exchange that will be felt at the celebration of the book.
The book is interesting for those who support more openness on physical use and abuse, on virtual oppression and proliferation, on gender equality and breast cancer. Many intense themes between which the reader can navigate in an exploratory way.
The book is designed in the style of the graphic novel and is in English.
Made possible by crowdfund donations, Cultuur Eindhoven, Constant van Renessefonds, Museum Dr. Guislain en Grensverleggers (regeling ter ondersteuning van culturele samenwerkingen tussen partijen in Vlaanderen, de Provincie Noord- Brabant, de Provincie Limburg en de Provincie Zeeland).

In recent years she has been active in Eindhoven as founder and head of KONT magazine, a project that originated from the DNA of this city and through which she responded to the Eindhoven need to connect the numerous present designers more closely with other artists.
